Construction Update October 2026
A new look for Hotel Schutzhütte
As the crisp autumn air sweeps through the Sauerland, big things are happening here at Hotel Schutzhütte. In our last blog post, we focused on the changes inside the building. Now, it’s time to give our hotel its final face. The scaffolding is coming down, and we’re showing you what the new design hotel in Willingen looks like from the outside. Join us on a short tour as we take a closer look at the new facade and future balconies.
Alpine flair meets boho-chic: Our new wooden facade
A building’s facade is like a good book cover—it tells you at first glance what kind of story awaits you inside. At the Schutzhütte, the exterior architecture perfectly sums up our laid-back lifestyle and modern interior design. We are visually bringing the mountain world to us and blending it with modern lightness.
Larch as a natural stylistic element
To emphasize the mix of alpine lifestyle and modern boho style, we have combined different materials and design elements.
Regional wood: We are using larch wood! The material creates a direct regional connection to the nature of the Sauerland and brings a wonderful warmth with it.
Exciting contrasts: On the facade, rustic, light wood sections alternate with modern, dark contrasting wood elements.
The foundation: The entire ground floor, however, remains classically plastered. This contrast gives the solid wood elements on the upper floors a great sense of visual lightness.
Your balconies: Privacy with an unobstructed view of the greenery
Anyone coming to visit us in Willingen wants to feel close to nature. That’s why we paid very close attention when building your balconies. We placed great importance on plenty of glass and large window fronts. This allows daylight to fall deep into the very bright interiors, blurring the line between inside and outside.
Intimacy and safety for families
So that you can enjoy your first coffee of the morning undisturbed in the fresh mountain air, the balcony railings fulfill three important functions:
Protected space: The construction conveys a wonderful sense of intimacy. You are shielded from prying eyes and have absolute privacy.
Full view: At the same time, the railings do not block the view outside. So you can sit back, fully relaxed, and admire the panorama.
Safety first: Our families with kids are well taken care of. The balconies are completely child-safe, so the little ones can enjoy the fresh air without a worry.
An exclusive look inside: The fireplace lounge is ready
Things are also moving forward in big steps inside the building! When you return through our connecting tunnel after an active day or a visit to the neighboring Lagunenbad, you’ll need a place to warm up.
We took a look around the first floor, where our adults-only spa area is growing. A real highlight: the little “house” for our future fireplace lounge is standing, and the fireplace itself is already fully integrated! Where craftsmen are currently still at work, a soothing fire will soon be crackling. Imagine sinking into cozy cushions on stylish sofas here after a sauna session, surrounded by warm light and lovingly selected accessories. It will be your second living room for your vacation!
Wood, glass, and warming fireplaces—the Schutzhütte is putting on its finest attire for you, combining modern architecture with cozy lightness.
