When does the Hotel Schutzhütte open?
The opening is planned for December 2026. The date depends on how the work progresses.
Where will the Schutzhütte be built?
The Schutzhütte will be built in Willingen in the Hochsauerland and there directly next to the Lagunenbad and opposite the ice rink with a view of the viaduct. The distance to the Sonnenpark will only be about 1 km.
What kind of hotel will the Schutzhütte be?
The Hotel Schutzhütte will be a casual lifestyle & design hotel, which combines modern equipment with alpine flair with boho elements and also has an exclusive offer ready.
How many rooms will there be?
The Schutzhütte will have 69 stylishly furnished rooms, from double rooms to family rooms to exclusive suites with sauna. There will also be 9 stylish chalets with a barbecue area.
Are the hotel and rooms accessible?
The hotel is generally accessible and accessible in all areas except for the fitness room. Here 3 steps would have to be overcome. There are also accessible rooms, as well as a wheelchair-accessible room.

Room Categories & Amenities
What do the room categories SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, and SUITES mean?
The categories differ primarily in room size, amenities, and spatial feel. SMALL is compact and cozy, MEDIUM offers more space and comfort, LARGE stands for generous living, and the SUITES offer special highlights such as private sauna, children’s room, or panoramic views.
What is the difference between MEDIUM Pure and MEDIUM View?
The difference lies in the room layout and the position of the bed. In MEDIUM View, the bed stands freely in the room and is oriented toward the window front or outdoors. This creates an open spatial feel with a view outside.
In MEDIUM Pure, the bed is positioned against the wall and oriented sideways to the window front. This arrangement creates additional space in the room and allows for a sofa bed for a child.
What does "Sky" room mean?
Sky rooms are located on the top floor (4th floor), have a sloping ceiling and are fitted with skylights. They offer a special sense of space and a beautiful view, but do not have a balcony.
Do all rooms have a balcony?
No. Almost all rooms have a balcony; only two rooms on the top floor (Sky categories) do not have a balcony, but have skylights instead.
Are all rooms individually designed?
Yes. All rooms follow the overall design concept of the house, but differ in details, floor plans, and variations within the categories.
On which floors are the rooms located?
The rooms are located between the 1st and 4th floors, depending on the category. The suites are exclusively located on the top floor.
Bathrooms & Room Concepts
What does an open bathroom mean?
In an open bathroom, the sleeping area and bathroom are designed as one space. This creates a special spatial impression with plenty of open space. Of course, the toilet is located in a separate, enclosed room.
Are there also rooms with a closed bathroom?
Yes. Several room categories have a fully enclosed bathroom, including SMALL Pure, MEDIUM Spacy, LARGE Family, LARGE Cinema, and SUITE Family.
Are freestanding bathtubs integrated openly in the room?
Yes, in selected rooms and suites (LARGE Living, SUITE Family, and SUITE Spa), the freestanding bathtub is part of the room concept.
Families & Occupancy
Are there rooms for families?
Yes. Several room categories are available for families. MEDIUM Pure offers a sofa bed for a child. The LARGE Family and SUITE Family categories have a separate children’s room. In addition, many rooms with connecting doors are ideal for families.
Can a baby cot be added to all rooms?
Except for the SMALL category and MEDIUM View, a baby cot can be added to all rooms.
Are there connecting doors between some rooms?
Yes. Selected rooms in the SMALL and MEDIUM categories have connecting doors. This allows two rooms to be connected and combined into a small, comfortable living unit—ideal for families or guests traveling together.
Are the connecting doors soundproof doors?
The connecting doors always consist of two separate doors—one per room. These meet the highest soundproofing requirements, ensuring that no noise can be heard between the rooms.
Accessibility & Special Rooms
Which rooms are particularly suitable for guests with limited mobility?
MEDIUM Spacy is designed to be barrier-free. In addition, LARGE Cinema is wheelchair accessible.
What is special about LARGE Cinema?
LARGE Cinema features a particularly large TV (XL), a closed bathroom, is wheelchair accessible, and is located on the 1st floor.
Are there rooms with particularly large beds?
Yes. LARGE Living is equipped with an XL bed (2.40 m wide). This is also suitable as a family bed.
Which rooms have a private sauna?
SUITE Spa offers a private sauna as well as a freestanding bathtub.
Chalets
What is the difference between rooms and chalets?
The chalets are independent units and offer even more privacy. The Family and Spa chalets are currently still in the planning phase.
Is self-catering possible in the chalets?
Yes, the chalets are equipped with a kitchen, so that self-catering is possible. It is also offered to bring guests a breakfast basket to the chalet.
Will the Schutzhütte have a wellness area?
Yes, the wellness and spa area with saunas, an infinity outdoor pool and a special spa bar for relaxing moments is one of the highlights. The visit will be included in the price.
Will there be a gym?
Yes, there will be a gym with professional equipment such as cardio endurance equipment, weights, weight bench and more. The visit will be included in the price.
What will be the focus of the restaurants?
The Naschmarkt restaurant offers a varied and diverse grill buffet every day with live cooking. The Deli restaurant features light dishes in a sharing style, promising new taste experiences.
Are the restaurants also open to external guests?
Yes, our restaurants will also be available to external guests. Advance reservations are requested.
Can meetings be held at the Schutzhütte?
Yes, conferences, events and other workshops are welcome to be held in the Schutzhütte. For this purpose, a professional and individually designed conference area is being created.
How many people are the rooms suitable for at a conference or workshop?
Exact details are currently being worked out. Basically, it can be said that the room is 60 square meters and can accommodate 20 people with a U-shaped seating arrangement with tables. To be informed directly when further details are announced, it is best to subscribe to the newsletter.
Will dogs be allowed in the Schutzhütte and the chalets?
Yes, dogs will be allowed both in the hotel and in the chalets. There will be a few restrictions: Not all rooms will be available for guests with dogs. Dogs are not allowed in the hotel areas: spa, fitness, restaurant.
Are families welcome at the Schutzhütte?
Yes, families are very welcome. There are some family rooms and the adjacent Lagunenbad with slides and toddler pools offers lots of fun for the whole family. The Lagunenbad can be reached via a tunnel without getting your feet wet and is also included in the price for guests of the Schutzhütte.
Unlike the Sonnenpark, the Schutzhütte offers no childcare, no kids’ club and no classic play areas. The concept focuses more on nature, activity and shared experiences outside of classic entertainment programs.
Is the Schutzhütte a youth hotel?
No. The Schutzhütte is not a youth hotel. It is designed as a modern alpine lifestyle hotel and is aimed at active guests, couples, friends and also families – but without the focus of a family hotel with childcare or play worlds like those at the Sonnenpark.
Is there a youth room at the Schutzhütte?
No. At the Schutzhütte there is no separate youth room and no internal program specifically geared towards teenagers.
What offerings are there for teenagers instead?
Teenagers will find plenty of attractive options right in the immediate surroundings of the Schutzhütte:
• Direct tunnel connection to the Lagunenbad Willingen
• Ice rink and cinema in the immediate vicinity
• Sports field only approx. 200 m away
• Direct access to nature with ski and bike areas
• Bike rental directly on site for spontaneous tours and adventures

Will the Schutzhütte also be an all-inclusive hotel like the Sonnenpark?
Many services will also be included at the Schutzhütte, but it will not be an all-inclusive hotel. Catering is booked individually. This opens up all options. Time for excursions, nature experiences by bike, on foot or on skis, or a discovery tour through Willingen’s diverse leisure world. This makes it easy to plan your holiday individually and casually.
Can Schutzhütte guests also use Sonnenpark services or add them on?
It is currently not planned that guests of the Schutzhütte can use or add on services from the Sonnenpark.
Do Sonnenpark guests get discounted admission to the Lagunenbad?
It is currently still unclear whether guests of the Sonnenpark can get discounted admission.
Will the Schutzhütte be part of Familotel?
Since the Schutzhütte will not be a classic family hotel and therefore does not meet the requirements for Familotel membership, it will not be part of the association.

Urberg, as the umbrella brand, connects the two hotel brands Sonnenpark and
Schutzhütte.
Why does the Urberg-Hotels.de site exist?
