Interview with the Upländer Milchmuhseum
A Journey through the World of Milk
At the Upländer Milchmu(h)seum, exciting guided tours await you, covering topics such as milk processing and the art of butter and cheese making. The special features of modern agriculture and dairy farming are also explained. In addition to the Upländer Bauernmolkerei, the Milk Café invites you to linger. Museum director Nicole Engelbracht gives us an insight.
What makes Willingen and its region so special?
Nicole Enngelbracht:
Willingen is the perfect interplay of nature, enjoyment, and living tradition. Surrounded by gentle hills, green forests, and fresh country air, the region offers a true quality of life – for locals and guests alike. Here, authenticity meets hospitality, and that’s precisely what makes Willingen so charming.
What specifically does Willingen offer tourists?
Nicole Engelbracht:
Whether active holidaymakers, families, or those seeking relaxation – everyone finds their personal adventure in Willingen: hiking, biking, skiing, summer tobogganing, or wellness. But the cultural diversity also surprises: regional manufactories, living craftsmanship, and a great deal of local pride. And right in the middle: the Upländer Milchmuhseum – the place where tradition becomes tangible and enjoyment becomes an experience.

What can our future guests look forward to when visiting the Milchmuhseum?
Nicole Engelbracht:
A journey through the world of milk – from traditional farm production to modern processing. Guests discover exciting exhibits, interactive stations, and genuine insights into the work of the Upländer Bauernmolkerei. Our café completes the experience with homemade cakes and regional specialties. A visit to the Milchmuhseum is not a mandatory stop – it’s a moment of pure enjoyment. Right next door, the organic shop of the Upländer Bauernmolkerei offers its own organic pasture milk products, a wide selection of regional products and organic cheeses, as well as a lovely selection of gift items.
Who is this attraction particularly suitable for?
Nicole Engelbracht:
For families, connoisseurs, school classes, hiking groups – in short: for everyone curious about regional culture, good food, and authentic country life. Children also get their money’s worth with us – for example, with our interactive discovery tour. And if you simply need an enjoyable break, the café is the perfect place.

Is there an insider tip? What should you definitely do when you visit?
Nicole Engelbracht:
Definitely try our homemade cheesecake – made from an old family recipe! AND – our cheese and wine evenings are a real highlight! In a cozy atmosphere, we serve finely curated combinations of regional cheese and selected wines. Plus, there are exciting insights into the production and origin of our specialties. Ideal for connoisseurs and anyone who wants to experience the Upland with all their senses. Spaces are limited – so book in advance!
What considerations are there for the future?
Nicole Engelbracht:
We want to make the Milk Museum even more engaging – with digital elements, as well as new formats for groups and families. Sustainability and education are always at the forefront. Because we believe: whoever knows where milk comes from appreciates it all the more.

How important is new accommodation like the Hotel Schutzhütte for the region?
Nicole Engelbracht:
They are an absolute asset! New, modern hotels like the Schutzhütte bring a breath of fresh air and make the region attractive to new target groups. They show that Willingen is changing – without forgetting its roots. For us as a museum, such partnerships are worth their weight in gold, as they create awareness and promote tourist diversity.
What else would you like to pass on to our future guests?
Nicole Engelbracht:
Take time for the small discoveries – for genuine conversations, regional products, and stories you only hear here in the Upland. A visit to our Milk Museum is not just a journey into the past, but a sensory experience. In short: if you want to experience Willingen, you can’t miss us. We look forward to seeing you!
