Foundation stone laid – Hotel Schutzhütte
This is where the casual design hotel Schutzhütte is being built in Willingen in the Sauerland
- New chapter in Willingen: Foundation stone laid for the high-quality lifestyle design hotel Schutzhütte
- Pioneering project: 67 hotel rooms and 10 chalets for sports enthusiasts and families
- Completion 2026: Modern architecture that combines alpine flair with boho elements
A very special hotel concept is being created in Willingen: With the laying of the foundation stone for the Schutzhütte design hotel on 2024-06-18, the Vollbracht family—who have already set standards in family hospitality with the multi-award-winning Familotel Sonnenpark—are continuing their visionary commitment. By 2026, a casual lifestyle & design hotel will be created that combines alpine flair with boho elements using state-of-the-art facilities and also offers an exclusive range of services.
A place of enjoyment and relaxation
Alongside the casual lifestyle atmosphere and special design, culinary enjoyment is also one of the Schutzhütte’s highlights. The “Naschmarkt” restaurant impresses with its varied grill buffet, the “Deli” promises new taste experiences with tapas-style dishes, and the spacious, cozy bar with fireplace lounge—there’s something for every taste.
Another highlight is the exceptional wellness and spa area with saunas, an outdoor infinity pool, and a dedicated spa bar for relaxing moments. Particularly noteworthy is the direct connecting corridor to the lagoon pool, which provides guests with convenient access.
A place in nature with plenty of attractions
The Schutzhütte design hotel is not only located right next to the Lagunenbad, but also close to other attractions such as the ice rink, the Skywalk, the summer toboggan run, the climbing hall, and many other leisure facilities. Willingen also offers a stunning landscape for biking, hiking, and skiing.
A place for sports enthusiasts and families
If you’re looking for active relaxation with friends, Hotel Schutzhütte is just the place. With its 67 stylishly furnished hotel rooms and 10 stylish chalets, the Schutzhütte is designed for active families and individualists of all ages who value a laid-back lifestyle atmosphere, a connection to nature, and culinary enjoyment on vacation—while also appreciating personal and digital service.
Sustainability and regional ties
When bringing the project to life, the Vollbracht family places great value on regional partnerships, such as working with Bastian Becker for earthworks and Ms. Fisseler for structural shell construction. This naturally also applies to the ongoing hotel operation and the products used.
Appreciation and vision
“With the Schutzhütte, we’re creating a hotel concept that aims to set new standards,” explains Marc Vollbracht. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to make this dream come true and look forward to offering our guests an incomparable experience from 2026. A heartfelt thank-you goes to everyone supporting this project.”
About the Hotel Schutzhütte
The opening of Hotel Schutzhütte is planned for 2026. It will offer 67 rooms, from double rooms and family rooms to exclusive 70 m² suites with sauna, as well as 10 chalets, a spa area with saunas and pool, a conference area, a fitness area, and bike and ski storage. A special highlight is the direct tunnel connection to the neighboring Lagunenbad. Behind the Schutzhütte are Sandra and Marc Vollbracht, who run the Familotel Sonnenpark together.
About the Vollbracht family and the Sonnenpark
Sandra and Marc Vollbracht have been very successfully managing the multi-award-winning Familotel Sonnenpark in Willingen since 2012, which was founded by his parents Karin and Ulrich Vollbracht in 1983. The 4-star hotel offers hotel vacations for the whole family. A total of 170 employees work there every day to ensure guests have the most beautiful family time of the year. The Vollbracht family has consistently geared the 90 apartments, the entire service, and the hotel facilities to the needs of parents and children. But what happens when the children have grown too old for the Sonnenpark? With this question in mind, the idea was born to also look after these guests and their changing vacation needs while still taking families into account.
This passion for hospitality is rewarded time and again. This year, the editors of kinderhotel.info named the Familotel Sonnenpark Germany’s most popular family hotel for the sixth year in a row. Guest reviews on holidaycheck.de also confirm the Sonnenpark’s high standards: since 2013, the hotel has been among the annual winners of the HolidayCheck Award. Sandra and Marc Vollbracht are especially proud of this, because guest satisfaction is their top priority. “The warmth and attention to detail that we cultivate at the Sonnenpark should also move into the Schutzhütte,” says Sandra Vollbracht.
We warmly invite all media representatives to report on the Schutzhütte—a project that will not only enrich the hospitality landscape, but also open a new chapter in the region’s history.
